Stencil Sourcing
Stencil Sourcing
An SMT stencil, also known as a PCB stencil, solder paste stencil, or laser stencil, transfers solder paste to a bare circuit board. The stencil is made of a stainless steel foil that is laser cut to create an opening for each surface mount device on the board. To apply the solder paste, align the PCB stencil with the top of the board and use a metal squeegee to make a single pass over the openings. The stainless steel foil leaves behind solder paste when detached from the board, which is then used for manufacturing the surface-mount device (SMD). This process ensures consistency and saves time, unlike manual soldering procedures.
